Marriage CAN be an adventure! Many of you may believe the longer you're with your spouse, the less adventuresome you become. This doesn't have to hold true if you just take time with your spouse. Keeping your marriage exciting and adventuresome requires effort and planning. Learn to seize moments of time. These moments act as kindling in your relationship. As your marriage receives constant kindling, it will remain ignited, ON FIRE.

Kindling keeps love from being stagnant. Love must be challenged, encouraged, molded, and sharpened. Find adventure and ignite it!

So how do you find adventure? What's available in your community? Does it have to costs a lot of money? The great thing about adventure is it can be found anywhere and it doesn’t have to cost you anything but time.
Here are some suggestions:

1. Put together a scavenger hunt for your spouse. Leave several clues that your spouse is required to find which lead up to a find destination. The clues you leave maybe lead up to a picnic in the park. Perhaps your clues lead to the peak of a hiking hill where you end the journey overlooking God’s creation.

2. Moments of Good Deeds. How about surprising your spouse for days by doing small good deeds like taking out the trash, putting their clean clothes away, making coffee, packing their lunch, cleaning their car. Do these deeds without telling them or by leaving a “good deed bandit” business card behind.

3. The surprise. How about surprising your spouse at lunch time. You can take them to lunch or bring them lunch. Don’t just eat a typical lunch menu, try something new or someplace new. Bring a flower for your wife or the sports page for your husband.

4. Away but not Far. Try a local vacation. My husband and I tried this recently and we honestly had the best weekend ever. Not only did we stay in a new hotel but we ate at new restaurants, visited new attractions (like an art museum) and we even participated in a local Food Tour (highly recommend!). We ended the weekend with time at the hotel spa where we were recharged. This adventure can cost more but try saving small amounts every week and set a financial goal and date.

5. Give Back. Take time doing good deeds for other people. Work at a food pantry, host a bible study, or clean your church. Not only can these turn out to be great adventures but it’s personally rewarding. You and your spouse will feel great doing any or all of them.

There are so many more opportunities for adventure you just need to tap into the resources around you. Keep your marriage exciting by just offering thought and time. Be creative and if you aren’t creative, ask a friend for help. You can always email us at
