If you’re like me, you’ll find it can be very difficult to readjust my thought process. If a haunting memory flashback comes into my mind, I find it hard to not entertain it. This can cause anxiety, worry or fear. It can bring back dangerous levels of distrust.
Having experienced some significant “haunting” life events in my time has conditioned me to learn how to battle with attempts of these memories bringing me down. If you need to get rid of a haunting memory try one or more of the following:
- Get Loud. Voice out loud for the thought to STOP, or sing a song. A simple command can bring your thoughts back into captivity.
- Get physical. By simply changing your scenery or the position your body is in, can help redirect your mind.
- Face the Fear. Maybe you have to deal with the event that happened which keeps causing the negative thoughts. Sometimes dealing with the hurt and unforgiveness can heal the situation.
- Spiritual. If you have a relationship with God, ask Him to immediately change your thoughts.
We have all experienced moments that have hurt us deeply. To keep moving forward with a positive and fresh outlook we must learn to keep those hurts from re-entering our minds. You can experience a joyful and peaceful life if you keep your mind in check. Don’t let it control you! Don’t be defined by your past hurts!
